Richard Burton's family has responded angrily to claims in a new biography of the hell-raising Welsh actor that he was a closet homosexual.

"If Rich was a homosexual, then I'm a nun," said his brother, Graham Jenkins.

Controversial author Ellis Amburn has claimed in an unauthorised biography of Burton's former wife Elizabeth Taylor that Burton had an affair with Laurence Olivier and tried to seduce Eddie Fisher, then married to Taylor, even as he was stealing his wife from him.

Jenkins, speaking to the BBC, said nobody who knew Burton would give the story any credence because his brother was "the most heterosexual man most people had ever encountered."

The book, The Most Beautiful Woman in the World is due to be published in the US next month.
