Just last week, we totally called it: gold lips are going to be huge in coming months. It seems like an odd trend to get excited about or predict, but last night models walking the Prada catwalk in Milan totally confirmed what we at GLAMOUR HQ had been thinking.
Renowned makeup artist Pat McGrath had officially found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow… and decided to use it not on the model's eyes, but on their lips. Some may say that her metallic creations even stole the show. The clothes were great; sharp, tailored and incorporating large reflective sequins and colourful stripes. But the lips, well, they were quite literally out of this world, looking like something from outer space or a sci-fi movie.
The rest of the makeup was kept bare, with glowing skin and bold eyebrows the only features worth really noting; all allowing for the bold metal pouts to stand out (as if they needed any more help).
Using gold lipstick may seem scary, but the truth is a gold lip is actually far more wearable than you would think, and this is due to the range of sheer options on offer. Burberry's upcoming holiday collection includes the perfect example. If you're more brave than that, there are plenty of intense gold options on offer. Gale Hayman's 14k Gold Lipstick will offer a frosty metallic effect, while Bobbi Brown's Pink Gold Shimmer lipstick will achieve a rose gold-tinged lip.
If you really want to go all out and get the Prada-girl look, we suggest grabbing a pot of Vaseline and a gold shimmer dust, such as Mac's pigment in Rose Gold or Melon.
