Guillaume Depardieu, the son of Grard Depardieu, died earlier today at the age of 37. The cause of death was named as pneumonia, which he'd contracted three days earlier in Paris' Raymond Poincare hospital.

Guillaume Depardieu, the son of Gérard Depardieu, died earlier today at the age of 37.

The cause of death was named as pneumonia, which he'd contracted three days earlier in Paris' Raymond Poincare hospital.

Guillaume had pursued the family theatrical tradition, winning roles in numerous French films including, most recently, Versailles and De la Guerre. He began his career proper in 1995, when a starring role in Les Apprentis won him a Cesar award for Most Promising Newcomer.

This was also the year in which Depardieu was involved in a serious motorcycle accident that left him needing surgery on his knee. He was in and out of hospital for eight years following complications. In 2003 he developed a Staphylococcus aureus infection, which led eventually to his leg being amputated.

Guillaume Depardieu is survived by his father; his mother, Elisabeth; sister Julie; half-sister, Roxane; and seven-year-old daughter, Louise.
